For many the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz festival is a highlight in the jazz calendar, attracting artist from all over the world. In 2018 the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz was celebrating its 21st edition, establishing itself as South Africa’s oldest Jazz festival. To acknowledge the momentous occasion for the festival, we wanted to the public and Standard Bank employees to be part of the celebration and #SHARETHEJAZZ. We created an experience that allowed people to be part of the first crowd source jazz song. With a mobile stage, the public and Standard Bank employees could record themselves singing, humming, playing an instrument or just simply clapping. The different recorded sounds where stitched together to form the song and one lucky member of the public was chosen to lend their voice to the song along with some of Standard Bank’s Young Artist winners. The song was played on radio and was available for download allowing the public to celebrate in their contribution. The celebration continued at the festival with a Standard Bank hospitality area that allowed the banks customers access to an exclusive experience with wine and chocolate pairing, photo booth and charging station.

The activation was taken to Standard Bank offices as well as to the public in an experience at the Fourways Farmers market. The public activation attracted 4000 participants with just as many Standard Bank employees engaged through the internal activation. The Standard Bank hospitality area at the festival attracted over 400 Standard Bank customers over the 3 day experience.
